Its History and Purpose
The Oasis Coffee Shop is the first coffee shop in Mae Sot with an evangelistic purpose. It opened its doors on June2, 2010 with its mission statement being Isaiah 43:20,
“I have given waters in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to My chosen people.”
Oasis is a place of peace and refuge for all who enter. Diana was given a vision for the many uses of this 5 story building and several other ministries and purposes have since developed. The Oasis has much more to offer than excellent coffee.
It serves breakfast (with real hash browns), sandwiches, bakery goods and a variety of
other beverages and fruit drinks.
An English speaking Christian fellowship meets at 6:30 pm Saturday nights. Oasis offers English, Thai and Burmese language classes.
For sale are hand woven shirts and bags, jewelry & key chains made by children at risk, who live at the Home of Hope. These items are sold to help support this home. See the
web site: www.homeofhopethai.org
It provides some of the older Home of Hope children with job opportunities and a chance
learn job skills and responsibility. Oasis offers Thai, Karen, Burmese and vegetarian cooking classes.
There are education classes and day trips to learn about Karen living and culture.
Apartments are available to rent for people living short term in Mae Sot.
Meeting rooms are available to the community and organizations. The Oasis has a book exchange library and it is a resource of information about Mae Sot and networking in the area.
The Oasis is a place for relaxing, quiet reading, good conversation or board games.
All profits go to help support the Home of Hope, a home for at risk children.
Both the Oasis and the Home of Hope are operated by Thai people under the direction of Neill and Diana Gilbert.
